Ketron SD1000 to Roland RD700sx?

Postby Denv12 » Sat Apr 26, 2014 4:04 am

I have a new Ketron SD1000 sound module connected up via Midi cable to a 2005 Roland Rd700sx stage piano.,The Roland is set to combine up to 4 tones/sounds plus drums.I can only get 1 sound at a time from the SD1000.And,I had to add a "Midi Solutions" product with built in Midi filter which corrected 1 problem where I couldnt access all 128 sounds on each of the 4 banks. When I added the Midi filter,it allowed me to access almost of all the sounds.I just cant combine 4 to play them on the RD700sx.

From what I've been told, there is a Midi port bugging issue.Apparently its like that with all SD1000.I also have the SD2 sound module which I can access all sounds on each bank but I cant combine 4,the same problem I have with the SD1000.

I cant afford to upgrade with DAW software and an ipad/tablet to run it.It would be nice to connect up piano, module and ipad via USB like in this video:

Has anyone been able to corrent the fault with the SD1000?

Hi Denv, and welcome here!
As our friend told, this is an Italian based forum (I hope our international forum will open soon), but I will try to help if possible.
I owned the RD700SX and it has very powerful master functions, but unfortunately I never had a SD1000 available, and its manual is very poor, so I can only give some general suggestions.
In principle, there is no reason why your Ketron module couldn't play different sounds together, as it was designed to play midi files using a total of 2 x 16 parts.
I don't know how you set your SD1000 and RD700SX up, so forgive me if I ask you if you have assigned the four parts (UP1, UP2, LW1 and LW2) of the External section of the RD700SX to four different MIDI channels (e.g. 1 to 4) on ALL connectors and the four parts of the SD1000 you want to use to the same channels. If so, by activating the four zones of the RD700SX external section one by one you should be able to hear the SD1000 four parts individually.
And, be sure you didn't connect any PC to the SD1000 through the USB cable while using the MIDI IN connected to the RD700, as this is known to give problems.
Let us know if this helped!
Bye
C.

Hi C.

Thank you for your reply.

This is how I connected the RD700SX to SD1000:
Piano Out to Midi In (module)
External zone on,
MSB (banks) LSB PC
0,1,10,11. 1 to 128 tones

and I did UP1,UP2,lw1,2w1,etc.
I still only get 1 sound.
I was told its a bugging issue with sensing message fro RD700sx causing the Midi port bugging issue.
I havent connected up with USB because I havent got an ipad/DAW software. If I dont connect up vis midi cable but connect up via USB with ipad, module and piano this will avoid the bugging issue and allow me to enjoy the full use of the module with piano.

Sorry... I've found your thread on the pianoworld forum, but I do not understand if you solved your problem or not...
